Red Bull Hartlines

Category: Animations, Event Branding, Event Skateparks

Client: Red Bull

Date: 2015

Project Overview:

The first annual Red Bull Hartlines street-takeover contest located at the Hart Plaza in Detroit, Michigan. Working with Ryan Sheckler and CA RampWorks on the design, we were able to create a unique, one of a kind skateboarding event. The course created two lanes through the hallways and corridors of the existing plaza and emptied out into the amphitheater for a final feature to hit. This event was designed as a temporary addition to the existing plaza. It was created to showcase a hand-selected group of world class, all-terrain skateboarders that could shred street and tranny equally as well. The event aired on NBC, August 1st, 2015.

Scope:

• 3D model of entire facility
• Geo-location of event site
• Skate course design
• Feature construction design
• Construction document packages
• Engineering permit packages
• Assembly documents
• 3D animated fly-through
• Live Design sessions with Red Bull branding team
• On-site project management
• Set design
• Local materials sourcing

Design Challenges:

– Designing skateable features within an existing structure
– Designing within a very tight area
– Managing speed control and spacing of features
– Creating detailed construction documents for prefabrication of components, based off loosely provided site measurements

Solution:

A design solution that truly provided a one of a kind contest experience was created. The features were designed to be quickly assembled on site within a 10-day build time. By creating a 3D environment, we were able to work directly with the Red Bull marketing team to insert sponsor logos and Red Bull branding throughout the venue in real-time, and provide them with everything they needed to go into production of the on-site branding. The 3D animation was also a huge marketing tool leading up to this event, used on social media and websites to promote the upcoming event.
